Database:
|
|
-
VHI PC-Kits clients access the network database using OLE DB and has been tested with Microsoft SQL Server 7, 2000, 2005, 2008
and MSDE 1.0, 2000. You can use either the Full or Express editions of SQL.
-
VHI PC-Kits ships with MSDE 2000 (Limited version of SQL Server 2000).
-
VHI PC-Kits can be installed to an existing Microsoft SQL Server through the installation program, in a seamless fashion.
-
Access to the shared database can be controlled using SQL logins or Integrated NT Authentication (SSPI).
-
The database can reside on a workstation (in a peer-to-peer environment) or on a server (in a client-server environment).
|
|
Workstations:
|
|
-
VHI PC-Kits can be installed on workstations such that the entire application
(.exe/.dll/kit files) are present on each workstation,
or it can be run from a shared folder on a server.
UNC paths are permitted everywhere a path is required.
-
VHI PC-Kits has been designed to work with and tested in Terminal Server/Citrix and diskless workstation environments.
-
Licenses are granted on the basis of "simultaneous users" rather than product installs.
|
|
Servers:
|
|
-
There are two server components: A database server (see above) and a license server.
-
In peer-to-peer environments, the database and license servers reside on one of the workstations.
-
In client-server environments, the database and license servers can reside on the same or different servers.
-
Clients communicate with the license server for configuration information using WinSock 1.0 over TCP/IP.
