How much does support for PC-Kits cost?

Support is currently free for version 4 and version 5 of PC-Kits. If you need support for an older version of PC-Kits, you can pay $100/hr or you can buy the upgrade to version 5 for $69.95 per Desktop edition or per Network license.

Can I use PC-Kits on the Web?

We do not have a web based version of PC-Kits yet. We will eventually so keep checking our site.

Printer not activated error when using the PC-Kits Export or Email feature.

Either the version of PC-Kits you have is not compatible with the version of Microsoft Windows you have, or the PDF printer driver used by PC-Kits needs to be reinstalled. If you have version 4 or 5 of PC-Kits, the driver is compatible with Windows 7, 8, and 10. If you have version 3 of PC-Kits, the driver is compatible with Windows XP or 7. Occasionally you have to reinstall the PDF printer driver due to changes in your computer or Windows upgrades. Browse to the PC-Kits DVD or download files and run "InstallAmyuni.exe". This will reinstall the driver. You can also download the driver for version 4 and 5 of PC-Kits by clicking here. Be sure to unzip the files before running InstallAmyuni.exe.

My PC-Kits came with a hardware key (parallel or USB, dongle). My new computer does not have a place to plug in the hardware key or the computer will not recognize it.

VHI stopped using dongles many years ago and they are no longer supported. You can buy the upgrade to version 5 of PC-Kits and we will convert all your serial numbers so that you no longer need a dongle. Please be sure to provide VHI with all your old serial numbers when you purchase the upgrade.

The print option in PC-Kits is unavailable or grayed out.

If you have version 4 or 5 of PC-Kits, then you most likely do not have a printer installed. Close PC-Kits and install a printer in Windows.
If you have version 3 of PC-Kits, then you probably do not have a valid printer set as the default. Close the PC-Kits program. Go to your Windows Printers folder in the Control Panel. Right click on the printer you want to use and choose "Set as Default".
Do not set the "VHI PDF Converter" printer as the default printer.
Open PC-Kits and printing should now be available.

Does PC-Kits integrate with my EMR (Electronic Medical Records software)?

PC-Kits does not currently integrate with any other programs. You can use our Export feature to create a PDF. Then if allowed, you can attach the PDF to your EMR. VHI does have another product for users of the EPIC EMR software. You may license our library of exercises to import into the Clinical References portion of EPIC. You then use the tools in EPIC to create routines, print, email, save to the patient record, and make available in the patient portal. Read about the EPIC product here.

The PC-Kits Desktop edition can only be used on one computer at a time. If you need it on multiple computers, you can purchase additional copies of the Desktop edition or you can buy the Network edition instead.

How do I backup my data?

How do I transfer my saved routines from my old computer?

You can use the backup and restore instructions described above or you can also copy the Data folder directly. The default location is:

c:\program files(x86)\visual health information\vhi pc-kits\Data on a 64 bit computer
c:\program files\visual health information\vhi pc-kits\Data on a 32 bit computer

I already have software that backs up my computer so my PC-Kits data should already be backed up?

Not necessarily. Many backup programs only automatically backup files that are in known locations like “Documents” and “Pictures”. They usually ignore files that are in other locations. Go into your backup software settings and make sure that the PC-Kits Data folder is included in the backup. The default location is:

c:\program files\visual health information\vhi pc-kits\Data on a 32 bit computer

Can I use a Mac Computer?

No. PC-Kits Network edition is not supported on MAC computers.

How many computers can I put PC-Kits on?

You can install as many workstations as you want as long as they are all connected to the PC-Kits server. You can only install one license server.

Do I have to have a server?

No. Many small offices do not have a server. In this case, you choose the Peer to Peer install option for PC-Kits. The first workstation you install PC-Kits on becomes the server for all the other workstations. You can install on additional workstations as long as they are on the same network (using the same internet connection or WiFi). If there is a firewall installed on the server, it will have to be configured before installing additional workstations. Contact VHI support for assistance.

Where can I locate my Serial Numbers on a Network edition of PC-Kits?

Open the PC-Kits license manager on the server. All the serial numbers are displayed. If you are not sure where your license server is, open PC-Kits on a workstation. Sign in and then go to the File menu and choose Network Parameters. The first box is the name of your license server.

Do I have to install PC-Kits on every computer?

Unless you are using a Citrix or Terminal server, you must install the PC-Kits client on every workstation that needs to run PC-Kits.

What are the security options for PC-Kits?

There are 3 options:

  1. No security. Sign into the program as any user you want.
  2. User names and passwords.
  3. Windows authentication. Associate each PC-Kits user with an Active Directory account.

In addition, you can disable the ability to create patients if you do not want any patient data stored in PC-Kits. All security settings are set in the license manager on the server.

I have Citrix and I can't print from PC-Kits.

The default setting for a published app in Citrix is to launch the program first and then load all the printers in the background. Version 3 of PC-Kits requires that the printers load first. Go into the app properties in Citrix and uncheck the option to load printers in the background. This is no longer an issue in version 4 or 5 of PC-Kits.

When I try to open PC-Kits it says it cannot connect to the License Server or the Database Server?

Contact your IT department and have them check the status of the PC-Kits license server or the PC-Kits SQL database server. Or, go to the first computer that was installed with PC-Kits and open the license manager or verify that the SQL service is running. Call VHI support if you need assistance.

How do I backup my PC-Kits data?

With the Network edition of PC-Kits, all the data is stored in a SQL database on the server. There are several ways to backup a SQL database. If you have a full SQL license already, you can schedule a backup job in SQL Management Studio. If you are using SQL Express that comes with PC-Kits, You can setup a batch file that runs a SQL backup command. Or if you have 3rd party backup software that is SQL aware you can tell it to backup the pckits database. In a Peer to Peer install, you can open the PC-Kits client on the server machine and manually backup the database using the Backup option from the File menu. Please contact VHI support if you need assistance doing a backup.
